I know some Black people want to tell me to “stay in my lane” or “keep it to myself” but I’m saying this regardless: Context is everything. If a statue can be preserved in a museum (statues are not venerated in museums) with the full context and historical significance explained then people can see at one time this person was admired and now in modern times it was removed from public display because of how it represented the evils of slavery. You cant’t judge history by today’s standards. I know that removing these statues will appease some folks but it STILL doesn’t change the historic narrative. We need to learn from the atrocities of the past in order to change the future.
