Don’t You Wish Your Content Was HOT Like Mine?!
I’m just not getting the engagement on Medium that I deserve…

Hello…I thought that title would grab your attention alright!
*Disclaimer: This is NOT a whinefest complaining about Medium* 😜
It’s actually a satirical piece or a ‘piss take’ as the Irish would say! ☘️
Oh by the way, if you’re an Irish writer earning euro, Medium is probably NOT the best place for you. (Oh God, am I whining?!) My $3 per month converts to roughly about €2.65. I always wondered why I was so short changed every time I go out to buy a cup of coffee at month end — so embarrassing! 😆
I write about fashion & travel which I notice is NOT very popular on Medium. I guess not many readers want to keep up to date on the latest shoe trends or how to dress like a French dominatrix (or are you?!) That could be my NEXT article, just you wait & see!
Another bewildering thing I’ve noticed about Medium lately is how much it’s starting to look & feel like Facebook (I just escaped that hotbed of crap last month!) 😫 You know when someone publicly addresses something that another person did that pisses them off but they don’t want to say it to the person directly? That’s the one!
Ah, those passive aggressive posts & attention seeking, whiny status updates — don’t you just miss ‘em?! 😁
Anyway, I just want to put my hand up in solidarity with all the other Medium writers 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏿♀️ & state (NOT complain!) that I’m not getting the engagement or earning the money I deserve on this platform.
There…I’ve said it!
Thankfully, I didn’t join the MPP to earn a living, I was realistic. I just wanted to write about what I’m passionate about, publish it & see what happens. I was hopeful I’d get some engagement, but didn’t EXPECT it. The value I get from Medium isn’t monetary (clearly not when I can’t even afford a cup of coffee! 😆), it’s in the engagement in the form of comments.
Tales of a Former Trolley Dolly
I’m happy when my stories resonate with my readers. My most successful articles (also the ones I enjoyed writing the most), have been about my former career as a Gulf Air stewardess. I was lucky to have had the experience of living & working in the Middle East & getting to travel the world.
Not only did I learn an enormous amount about Arab culture but at the age of 22, I discovered so much about myself too. I realized that I could adapt to living in a foreign country without getting too homesick. So many of my fellow cabin crew gave up after only 2 weeks of training, quit & went home without even receiving their ‘wings’.
Not me — I persevered & earned those wings!
I’m delighted that I found Medium to share my life experiences & engage with readers. I know that my voice & the topics I write about isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but even if I get ONE reader to engage with my writing, that’s a win for me!
If it wasn’t for this platform, I would still be writing ‘Winging It As a Trolley Dolly In the Persian Gulf’ in my diary! 😆
Finally, I’d like to give a shout out to my many ‘fans’ & thank them for their continued support. Blowing you kisses all the way from Dublin! ☘️😘☘️
