These creepy photos of children dressed up in Halloween costumes look like they are straight out of a Tim Burton movie!

Halloween costumes from the first half of the 20th century were truly terrifying. Before Halloween evolved into the family-friendly, party occasion we know it as, October 31 was deeply linked to ghosts and superstitions. Drawing on the holiday’s pagan and Christian roots — as a night to ward off evil spirits or reconcile with death, respectively — people often opted for more morbid, serious costumes than the pop culture-inspired ones of today.

Children in Creepy Costumes

I’ve always been fascinated by the creepy, ghoulish children’s Halloween costumes from the 1920s. It makes the popular super hero costumes of today seem lame in comparison. Small children wearing horrifying realistic skulls on their heads, skeletons riding horses and a number of unidentifiable animal masks seem to have been the order of the day during that decade. …

Punks wearing the iconic Dr Martens boots in 1983

Now that October is here, I love ditching my flip flops and sandals to the back of the closet for something a little warmer. What better than a cosy pair of leather boots? Boots are a wardrobe staple because in Ireland, they can be worn all year long. I wear ankle boots with leggings and knee-high leather boots with skinny jeans and skirts. It’s worth investing in a high quality pair of winter boots that will last for years and that you can wear with many different outfits. Good leather boots never go out of style.

Now that it looks like we’ll all be working remotely for the foreseeable future, it’s important to invest in comfortable, cosy and affordable leisure wear. How my grandmother’s 1930s vintage photos still influence my sense of style

My grandmother as a young woman in the 1930s

When I was a little girl I loved visiting my grandmother, or ‘Nana’ as I called her and dressing up in her clothes. She had a pair of beautiful gold slippers & every time I tried them on, I felt like a princess! I would raid her jewelry box & put on an armful of chunky, costume bracelets & layers of pearls to complete the look. Then I’d stand in front of the mirror admiring myself imagining I was going to a ball like Cinderella!

Nana loved fashion and as a young woman in the 1930s, she was always impeccably dressed when she went out to social events. Luckily I have lots of old photos of her wearing stylish outfits. As a fashion blogger, I’m always inspired by vintage fashion, particularly from the 20s and 30s. Hopefully, I’ve inherited some of my grandmother’s good taste and chic style. …

Mmm…a tasty slice of art courtesy sasamana1204 via Instagram

I never knew art could be this tasty!

Dutch avant-garde artist, Piet Mondrian’s creations have had a huge impact on pop culture over the last 100 years. Mondrian’s iconic paintings, which he called “compositions”, are undoubtedly the best known representatives of Neo-Plasticism.

Mondrian was a founding member of the Dutch art movement, De Stijl. The supporters of this movement used only the primary colours and the three primary values black, white and grey in squares and rectangles, divided by straight horizontal or vertical lines. Influenced by Cubism, the results were effectively progressive, radically abstract and deliberately unconventional.

The Mondrian Dress

Perhaps as famous as the painter’s canvases is the Mondrian Dress by Yves Saint Laurent. Originally part of a 1965 collection, in which YSL paid homage to several different artists, the Mondrian dress grabbed so much attention that the collection has been dubbed the “Mondrian Collection”. …

How to find the perfect relationship & make it last…

The Quiet Man & I have a cuddle before bedtime!

As I’m cuddling him in bed, I’m thinking how lucky I am to have finally found the perfect guy. Yes he DOES exist and I get to sleep with him every night. He’s super considerate. He never farts, snores or takes up more than his fair share of the bed. In fact, just the other night, I shoved him right off the bed in my sleep. When I woke up he was still lying on the floor but didn’t utter a sound. He probably couldn’t find the strength to get back up onto the bed with just ONE arm!

Movie Night 🎥

When we watch movies together on the sofa, he approves of every movie choice I make without complaint. He NEVER demands to watch Sky Sports so I never have to compromise. What a sweetheart! He also has a low carb diet. Every time I offer him popcorn he utters not a sound so I end up scoffing the whole lot myself! …
